- About Me
- I am a 69 year old retired nurse and Vietnam vet. I served as an Army Nurse from 1966-1986 including 18 months in a combat hospital in Vietnam. Although I retired in 1986 I was called back to active duty for the first Gulf War, retiring a second time in 1992.
I have been a practicing Wiccan since 1980. I trained in the Oak, Ash, and Thorn Tradition of Wicca beginning in 1990, and received my Third Degree from OATh at Samhain 1996. I founded my own coven of Tangled Moon at Yule 1996 and ran it until we closed its doors at Midsummer 2008. I now serve as High Priestess of the Oak, Ash, and Thorn Tradition with a total of two daughter covens and one training circle. I am also a 3rd Degree Gardnerian.
I hold a Master of Divinity Degree in Pagan Pastoral Counseling from Cherry Hill Seminary.
I am active in the SCA, where I am known as Iofa merch Macsen, a Celtic woman from southern Britain at the time of the Roman invasion. I currently reside in the Shire of An dun Theine, Kingdom of Meridies; however, my primary loyalty is to my family of the Great Dark Horde.
In my not-so-copious free time I do quilting, medieval embroidery, hand spinning, weaving, gourmet cooking, reading, dressage, scuba diving, archery, and run several on-line message boards including Branwen's Cauldron at http://www.branwenscauldron.org

Speaking at The Wall on Veteran's Day 2013

On Veteran's Day 2013 I was one of the guest speakers at the Women's Vietnam Memorial. It was an incredible moment, painful yet healing at the same time. For those of you who don't remember, I was an Army nurse at a MASH hospital during the Vietnam War. It has been 40 years since then…

Working as an Interfaith Chaplain
Posted on March 4, 2012 at 8:36 8 Comments 9 Likes
For several years now I've been working on a Master of Divinity Degree with a focus on Pagan Pastoral Counseling through Cherry Hill Seminary. One of the things that I needed to do to complete the academics was to have an internship semester where I was actually doing hands-on work. After a bit of searching around for a place to do it, I ended up working through the Chaplain's office at my local hospital. I'm having a fascinating time doing it. Love the work, love the people on the staff…

This semester at Cherry Hill I was enrolled in a class discussing the role of the interfaith chaplain. Our instructor had once worked as a chaplain to prisoners and then to the homeless. It opened my eyes to all of those groups in our society that are considered outcasts. As Pagans we know how this can feel. But I suspect that we often fail to see these "others" out there. We don't hear their stories. We don't see them as human beings with hopes and dreams just like us. So this was my…
