Comment by Joy Shepard on August 12, 2012 at 18:50 Every thing in my garden has tapped itself out. Our summer started in February for GA. We have had rain non-stop for 2 weeks in my area, but all my plants are dying off. It is just so sad. Still have peppers and beans and all my herbs until it gets cold.
I have read about all the drought burning up a lot of crops and what naught. Truly my heart goes out to those in that situation. Prayers and blessings to any on here that are in that situation.
Comment by Daniel O'Neill (Cat wrangler) on July 24, 2012 at 18:45 Yes Harobed it is truly terrible we have had just under a inch since April 19th. It has rained a goodly bit in the northern part of the state in the last few days but down here it just to late.
Comment by Harobed on July 24, 2012 at 8:00 Thats terrible "Cat" In my county the storms have been horrid and the heat terrible but our storms awful as they were brought rain and the corn here is lovely....The next county over however got winds and lightening with little to no rain ,all their crops have withered in the fields. My heart goes out to the families that toil in the fields to feed us this has not been a good year.
Comment by Daniel O'Neill (Cat wrangler) on July 24, 2012 at 6:58 I seen a lot of things in my life as many of us have.I have never seen hundreds of square miles of corn an soy bean die in the fields from lack of water an heat like what we are seeing here in southern Indiana, With each passing day you see as far as the eye can see less green each day in now to the point large trees a stating to break from the weight of their own limbs or the now dead or dieing vines.
I saw farmer today on back country road I use checking his corn it was sad to see the look on his face the tears in his eyes as he look out at 1500 acres of corn that will not yield 10% it that much total loss an that was just one farmer. It to dry an hot to plant winter crops no wheat no grass for hay an straw
This is now beyond bad folks it to late even if it does rain. What I'm hearing from the old times is this crop loss will have very long arms. It not about money it about supply food stock for both humans and livestock. If you can I would stock now while you can.
Comment by Daniel O'Neill (Cat wrangler) on July 7, 2012 at 20:24 I have been lucky with the storms as far as the winds go(lots of tree down non ours) hail not so lucky. My Sunflower have not done well at all I have one patch that I planted back in mid April an have not got more then a eight inches tall if that an are trying to bloom. Just not a banner year to be a back yard farmer. The heat a lack of rain has all but wipe any plans for canning any garden goodie this year.
Comment by Harobed on July 7, 2012 at 10:43 It scorching hot here also and when it rains the storms that come with it are violent and scary ....last week all my sunflowers ,glads and lilies were taken to the grouind ....sigh gone with Calypso

Comment by Daniel O'Neill (Cat wrangler) on July 7, 2012 at 7:37 Oh boy oh boy I don't know about anyone else garden this year but this "heat wave" ..is killer. first I lost most of my seedlings to hail.
No rain to speak of, I think we've have only had a half a inch total since April 14. The poor corn farmer here in southern Indiana are looking at total crop failure soon!!! For some it just to late even if we were to get six inch of rain today(that not going to happen) it just to late. It just miles an mile of stunted (way to short) corn. Soy bean fields that should be green are now field of yellow.
You almost don't dare lite a match outside it just that dry.!!!!
