The gender of Apple is feminine,Its element is water.
In both the Celtic tradition and Wicca it is one of the nine woods used to make a Balefire.
For the purpose of magick it relates to all Venus matters,
beauty, compassion, fidelity, friendship, happiness, interchanges, joy, love, luck,
meditation, divination, pleasure, reconciliation, health ,prudence and youth.

Because of its association with Venus its a great thing to incorporate into you Witchy Wedding with blossoms woven into your hair ,tucked into your bouquet or a besom made of Apple wood.
It is an old English custom to drink to the health of the Apple tree with a good glass of
cider all in hopes of encouraging the tree to produce a good crop next year.

I recently had to prune big neglected Apple trees ,I usually dont have Apple wood to work with so I wanted to waste not want not. After I cleaned up what I hauled home ,there was enough to make a small besom ,a large besom, one really nice wand and a little left over for my wreaths and Cauldron. So I started small and made the little Besom first.
In the beginning theres only a little mess before Im through it looks like a bomb went off!lol

This pretty girl is bedecked with a raw Quartz tip on her handle,a skeleton key ,Sterling Silver vine ,a Vintage crystal earring and a beautiful Amethyst .She is wrapped with purple and teal waxed cord, teal sueded yarn and has lots of lovely Copperwork.

She is slender ,just under two ft' long and no its not a trick she stands on her own.

I'm always on the hunt for Old jewelry to use .Broken or discarded for lack of a mate I give those pieces a new life with purpose . The older the pieces the stronger the energy, the same goes for keys.I use real skeleton keys in my crafts to help unlock the magick within .For weddings this is also a sweet way of bringing those loved ones who have passed into your day.Broochs can become hair ornaments , hold ribbons on your flowers or bedeck your garter.

Here you can see the vintage crystal earring ,that I found in a great aunts " box of broken" and her lovely Copper wrapped Amethyst.

Amethyst is a healing stone of great reputation but it also opens portals to other realities and is wonderfully protective of all who wield it ,being combined with Apple intensifys its already considerable power.

WOW! Absolutely gorgeous!

And now my 20 questions lol.

Where did you get all that copper from? That stuff costs a fortune!

Do you tie them up with ordinary twine then add the bling?

Do you strip the bark off the big bits?

What do you mean by saving left over bits for your cauldron? A Balefire, 'spell component' ?

We have an apple tree in dire need of pruning. I'm not that handy but I'm sure I can tie a few sticks together. I'll just say the crudeness adds to it's charm lol.

Our pear and apricot trees also need some TLC. The apricot's a bit crook but the apple and pear are happy.

lol ok "deep breath".....

I live in a rual area and know lots of contractors they bring me their bits and pieces of  copper wire no matter how small the scraps are I strip it and use it ,all my copper is recycled......

To tie them up I use either hemp twine, waxed braided cord or suede lacing depending on the besom Im making.....

the bling comes last.....

some times I strip the bark other times I dont it just depends on the look Im after......

the small twigs I bundle & lable for when I fire up my cauldron for spells ,the tiny bits are bagged and labled also for spell use ,incense and such (and yes balefires also)

lol & that was the abridged version cos the text box hates it when I go on a bit :)

My SO used to be a sparky and if I knew then what I know now I'd have buckets of the stuff. Now about the only off-cuts we have are fencing wire.

Hmm, I've got crochet cotton for things like smudgesticks. I'll hunt around for something chunkier. They make all kinds of hemp stuff up around NE NSW, I wonder if someone has an online store...

So to strip or not is by choice, not necessity. OK. I guess because it's thin bark it doesn't make much difference once it's dried.

I don't do spellwork, as yet, nor do I really have anywhere to store stuff for who knows how long so I'll file this last  bit in 'Future Reference'. Except maybe the incense. I'll look into that.

Thanks Harobed, for your time and tips.

This is very inspiring.

I've yet to make one by hand and the idea of incorporating older things into something new, is lovely.  The colours are lovely! I'm such a bird.. I go for the sparkling shimmering coloured items that make me go "oooooooo  ahhhhh"...
