As I mentioned on a group no longer in existence, I was shemsu for the House of Netjer almost a decade ago, and within it I was devoted to Wepwawet, an almost forgotten cousin to Yinepu, similar in icongraphy but quite different in vocation. Whereas Yinepu lead the dead, as psychopomp to the Kemetic peoples, Wepwawet led the armies, one of the very oldest of war gods.

Still, there was a rather unique bond between the two that went beyond their animal form and I am perpetually fascinated with deities whose vocation is with the dead. It's pretty much a common theme, with war deities, in my life. :)

I am also quite fascinated with death deities and animals,that have that nature, specifically psychopomps. It has been something I've been surrounded by since my childhood. It was only after my dad died that I decided to take the plunge and research more thoroughly on Hekate and the animals I honour as spirit animals.

 

I would say Wepwawet is indeed obscure, and I do not know much about him, but now I am hungry to research more:)

 

I've never been with HON, so my experience and rituals are based on what I've read in the small amount of books I've found and obviously Neo wiccan practice.

He seemed to have a higher popularity in the earliest of dynasties, and some sources suggest that he and Yinepu were the same, but the role (and name change) did not occur until Kemetic religion became especially interested in the afterlife. Presumably, if you accept the idea that Wesir was an actual king, that transition would have taken place when he ascended to his role of judge to those whose heart would be weighed against the feather of Ma'at.

Other sources suggest they are only similar in their animal identification. In the heiroglyphics, nearly the only way to tell them apart is that while Yinepu carries a staff, Wepwawet carries a banner/flag.

It's all fascinating!

I have always been fascinated with Egyptian gods and goddesses with the half human half animal,  Sekhemet and Bast and Osiris mostly but i do hope to learn more about Anubis by joining this group!

Hey Nightshade. I can't wait to learn a whole bunch of things about Anubis. The book that I read that my sister got me for my birthday opened my eyes about what he really does. But I'm not sure how to start working with him. If there's any advice that you can give me, I'm willing to learn from you.

Kimmie please read my reply to Jen's discussion. It offers a simple ritual. If I have time I will outline a ritual I use to make the Anpu incense, as well as the two rituals from the book mentioned in the discussion reply.

Hey ive been drawn to Anubis since i was 5, but also to ravens and necromancy, its a strange thing to say but i have always felt thats what i should be doing, it feels right to me, thought id say hi!
