The definition of Insanity and What, 12 Steps to Living?

Disclaimer: This is NOT about any one person. It's just a rant inspired by many different happenings in various places on the net, over the past several months. Having said that, if the shoe fits, wear it!

The definition of insanity is repeating the same things over and over and expecting different results.

I think many can agree with that. Yet,everyday I see people doing just that, repeating the same stupid things over and over. Then they get mad because other people see the stupidity. With many of these people, it's everyone else' fault. They refuse to take responsibility for their own actions. If you rob abank, you're going to go to jail, don't expect to rob a bank again when you get out, and NOT go to jail, and then blame society for not teaching you better.

The same goes for internet networking .So you join one group and you act like an idiot, then blame the others on the network for attacking you. Then you join another network and the exact same thing happens. So what, you go to yet another, or even back to the first and bash those people for YOUR inability to see your own character flaws? You say something rude on someone's Facebook page, then get mad when they delete you and bash them on someone else' facebook page?

What about at work? You're overheard making rude remarks about a coworker, when they confront you, you getupset, then go talk more smack to another coworker? No matter whereyou do it, it's all the same. They're not the ones with the problem,YOU ARE.

If you have a problem with everyone, everyone may not be the problem. Sometimes we need to take a good long look in the mirror, maybe even say some of the things we are saying about others, about ourselves. I mean really, look hard, do you see those characteristics that you complain others have in yourself? How many people have said something to you about your behavior? Do you honestly think THAT many people are wrong? Are there THAT many people with the exact same problem? Or is it really you?

Sometimes, I think some sort of 12 step program should be given to everyone as a high school exit course.

The 12 Steps To Living

  1. We admit we are powerless over other people.

  2. We believe that we can restore ourselves to sanity.

  3. We make the decision to change our will and our lives.

  4. We take a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

  5. We admit to ourselves, our god(s) (if we believe in them) and another human being, the exact nature of our wrongs.

  6. We're entirely ready to change or remove our defects of character.

  7. Humbly & consciously begin to remove our shortcomings.

  8. Make a list of all persons we have harmed and become willing to make amends to them all.

  9. Make direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would hurt them or others.

  10. Continue to take personal inventory and when we're wrong promptly admit it.

  11. Sought through prayer and/or mediation to improve our conscious contact with our god(s) and/or higher selves, seeking knowledge of our will and the power to carry it out.

  12. Having a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we try to carry this message to others and practice these principals in all our affairs.

Ok so maybe my steps aren't perfect, but I tried to leave out the God part as much as possible to appeal to everyone. LoL. At any rate the principals are still the same and there are many many people out there who could learn something from them. Are you one of them?

Wanna make it more "witchy" LOL- add a thirteenth step: "13. Rinse and Repeat"

Fantastic post. There was a time when I was certain the whole world was plotting against me. Then, I realised I am just NOT that special!

Oh Tasha, this is precious!

And, I *do* know at least a couple of people that this can apply too

I don't exactly fit the picture, but... No. Sometimes, I do fit. And you know what? Having a reminder to not fall into the insanity trap is healthy. Thus... I'm bookmarking this (I'm growing quite the list of bookmarks here LOL)

Thank you for this post!
