That's good to hear because so many take it a bit too far. That being said, She IS a good Mama. :)
You should join the ATR group here. She will undoubtably be mentioned.

Hello Sangraal! Believe me, I have the utmost respect for Yemaya, the farthest I ever go is to offer her scented oils and frangrances. Ask her to protect my family, and to thank her for the role she played in our creation.

I am not expereinced/knowledgable enough to even consider calling upon her (hairs stand on end!) but I will burn a candle of her image and pray, with the utmost humility.

She's rather unique of any other, actually.
She is identified with the oceans, but not originally. Her initial domain was the cemetery. However, a pataki (story) tells us that She managed to trick Oya into a trade for the ocean. Oya now has the cemetery, and has not quite forgiven Yemaya for the shady deal. :p

Yemaya owns the ocean above, but the depths and turbulence is under the rulership of another, Olokun.

I will also add that the Orisha vastly prefer to be honored in their traditional religous practice. There's a popular story in the ATR community whereby the often gentle Oshun actually mounted a Wiccan priestess that called upon her in a circle and have them all a very stern warning to never do it again. She reminds me of Aphrodite.tag:realpagan.net,2010-12-09:6330711:Comment:228792010-12-09T20:23:34.879ZSpiritMaidenhttp://realpagan.net/profile/SpiritMaiden
