The moral of the story is "Insidious".

Okay, I'm a complete coward when it comes to horror movies--esp. supernatural ones. Anything dealing with, ghosts, demons, other beings makes me sleep with every light turned on (or not sleep at all). I think it's the fact because I know, or atleast I believe, in the otherworld and other beings.  I've experienced "shadow" beings, however I feel that they were  a build up of negative energy that I had really seen bouncing about the walls. My grandmother has a psychic ability and has seen ghosts & the same "shadow beings" I have, my father has had supernatural experiences as well. I believe the stories they told me are true. And so when the media makes these crazy, horrific, terrifying films of possesions and hauntings etc., I always wonder if some truth can be pulled from them.

Anyway, I read this article where the pagan blogger was discussing how Insidious is a extravagantly created example that astral travelers should have extensive precaution and protection when traversing the astral world.
This article made me even more curious as to wether something like this Insidious movie (probably not as dramatic) could possibly happen. Are there really other beings that desire control over a humans body? Why do they want to live in our world, what could be their purpose? I'm not sure if I entirely believe that a being could completley control our bodies, having our souls wander the astral plane forever. I think that's a bit far-fetched.

Now I'm still contemplating watching Insidious--the reviews and buzz about it is a bit too enticing.
But I just wonder if these movies have any actual factualities? Obviously I'm not talking about vampire or werewolf movies-- I'm talking ghosts, other beings, demons, if you believe in their existance.  Even though these movies are created for the sole purpose of entertainment, are there lessons hidden within these films that people interested in having OBE's (out of body experiences), working with spirits & inter-dimensional beings should be aware of?

Can these type of things actually be real? I know for certain that I never want to find out.

Thanks for the correction & info, nightshade. I actually thought the astral body and soul were the same thing. I still wonder if it reallyy matters if u have the right mindset or not...I mean. I know like attracts like, as you said-+ but I've also read that energy in general attracts entities. That's not really related to astral travel though, lol. Another topic for another time.
& Surta I def agree with you about heading to the Catholic church for posessions mirroring "The Exorcist". Since their well studied in that area and all.

Perhaps it's my Catholic background speaking, but to some extent I believe it may be possible to be possessed by other worldly what-evers. I couldn't comment on whether one could hitch a ride while someone was in astral. Most here generally know my feelings about the Catholic church but I have to hand it to them on this one. I have no personal experience, or ever knew anyone that was said to be possessed but if I understand it correctly, their testing is rigorous. They would be my go to guys if I ever start spewing pea soup. As for the movie. I don't really get the hype. Maybe I would have been scared if the lights weren't on, coupons spread all over the bed, and me rewinding every time I heard the BUMMM that indicated something frightening happened while my mind was elsewhere.

Also remember when you are astral travelling it's not your soul that has left it is your astral body or consciousness.

I've never actually been able to consciously travel but I can tell you this, if you are depressed and suffering from negative thought overload it is not a good idea to travel until you have sorted it out, simply because like attracts like and you will attract negative spirits to your astral body.

To be safe you should get rid of negativity and throw all negative thoughts away, if you like you could cast a circle, but its highly unlikely that a spirit will want to possess your body, they'd more likely go for your astral body.

There are lower planes where "negative" spirits and beings dwell so being clear from negativity and being clear about where you want to be should help.
