She got the definition spot on! Here is some more "in-depth" info about nipple sheilds: La Leche League "Nipple Shields . . . Friend or Foe?" Ask Dr. Sears: NIPPLE SHIELDS

C-sections usually require and epidural or even heavier sedation because of the TYPE of procedure... and those drugs get to the baby. It is hard when baby wont latch right away. Rhiannon didn't breastfeed for several hours after birth, even though I…

The name is regional. You may have heard it referred to as a nipple shield as well. It's a circular disk with a hole in the center for the nipple to go through. Some babies find the firmness more comforting. Meldela makes quite a good model. It was…

I figured the drugs is why my first didn't want to latch and she slept like a rock I had to wake her to feed her all 3 days I was in the hospital. She didn't even wake when she was hungry and would fall back asleep while eating. Made me so nervous b…

Take your time I know how it is. My grandmother is very ill right now. With my second daughter I argued with the nurse until she allowed me to lay on my left side with a pillow between my knees. It helped whether it was in my head or really helped I…

Babies born via c section or on drugs often have that problem. Their apgar at 1 and 5 minutes are lower. When babies are born drug free they tend to feed better and more quickly. A little tickle on the cheek, or lips usually gets the slow to latch o…

That's more common than you know. The monitor is one reason they lay you flat, but laying you flat or even inclined causes the the very problems they so often operate for. It's the worst possible position for mom and baby. It also makes pain worse,…

What you said almost 100% explains why I dried up then. Neither of my girls would "latch". I had 6 different breastfeeding consultants try to get them to latch and they just wouldn't do it. My second daughter, Alyssa, was when I ended up with an ele…

About Me
Please don't send me a friend request if we have never spoken or engaged in discussion for more than a few minutes. It just makes me feel bad when I decline.
I am interested in meeting people here for friendship and exchanging information and ideas.
So a bit about me. I'm in a poly marriage. I have 2 hubbies and a wife. Together we raise our 6 kids. My wife is pregnant and due in the spring.
Me and my wife work from home and homeschool. I make soaps and green cleaning supplies, work occasionally as a lay midwife and doula. I council breastfeeding moms and do various other part time crafty things to bring in some cash.
I'm working on becoming fully sustainable but I'm only half way there. We use some means of alternative energy, grow most of our own veggies and keep chickens and rabbits for meat. At this point I don't own enough land to go off the grid but that's my goal. I buy meat and milk from local small humane farms and farmshares with the exception of the exotic items I'm just not ready to give up yet.
I am almost completely off packaged retail foods. I make my own cheese and grind my own grain for cereal, bread, and pasta. This has less to do with sustainability and more to do with the fact that there is an acceptable amount of rat crap allowed in our food and pus and blood from overmilking in retail milk allowed by the FDA.
Feel free to ask me anything, I'm an open book.

Need some help to strengthen my resolve

As some folks here are aware I've been ill for about two months. Tomorrow I am scheduled to have a lung function test on the lung that's functioning correctly to see if I can live with that one alone. Depending on the results, the docs are immediately scheduling a pneomonectomy or a lobectomy on the left. During either surgery they are going to remove a rib to determine why I keep cracking them. I have broken two on either side over the course of six weeks.
So here goes...I'm scared. My… Continue

Repurposing ideas for reducing garbage

About ten years ago while at an SCA event I had one of those eureka moments I always heard other people talking about but never experienced.
For a long time I was trying to come up with interesting ways to reduce my families footprint without much luck.

The day of my clans Men Without Pants party a simple ugly, gaudy project of one of my friends changed that.
While we were sweeping camp, moving around the cooking tent and other things to prepare for hundreds of people to…

An alternative for meat eaters.

Many people of all backgrounds are uncomfortable with the factory farming of animals for consumption. I am one of them. The vegan movement distributes pictures and videos of torture and abuse these animals suffer before being to put to a grizzly and frightening end, the carcasses hauled off in piles. You may have heard of a particularly gruesome human death where people responded by saying something like, “They were thrown in the bushes like a piece…

I really hope that tjings go well at the hospital... and that you are feeling much better soon! If I haven't said it already, congrats on your wife's pregnancy! I can't imagine how scary all of that is for you! That said... stay hopeful and stay stubborn! You have too much left to do - so you'll pull though!

Good Luck and I hope everything goes well!
