Any one have an idea on how to rid my garden of japanese beetles. They are destroying my peppers & are now on my cucumbers. All I can find is toxic stuff & that is unexceptable. Please help. Bree

Well it is time I think Mother nature is about to let us folk in this part of the world(NE Indiana) get our Gardening around so we can suss out our growing season.

Let the mighty Green Spring forth.

Oakthorne, you probably underwatered your mint.  Usually, the trouble is OVER watering by excited plant parents.  Mint, however, likes to be almost drowned on occasion.  We planted our chocolate mint at the end of a drainspout and ignored it.  It is very happy.  :)  Also, with tomatoes, you need to pinch off about 25% of the blooms (called suckers) so that too much energy doesn't go to creating all the flowers, and gets diverted to big, healthy fruit.  ...OR not enough sun?  Good luck with your crop this year!

Blessings!

This last summer was the first time I had a garden & I had herbs on my deck, also.  Most came out pretty good, but I really need some good advice. I've always had flowers on my deck every year, but  last year I went crazy & had dozens.  I can't wait to learn all I can on growing plants, especially herbs. I've got books I'm reading and with what I hope to learn here, I plan to have a more  successful planting season.  Blessings to all, Bree

Just popping in to say hi as I read through. I've been growing and using herbs since I was a child. My mom introduced me to herbal medicine and herbs as food and I've been a lover of herbs ever since. Wish I had pics to share. I created a really nice garden last summer. Can't wait for the snow to pass so I can work in it again!

Beautiful gardens. That is one thing I miss, living at 4,000 feet we get frost in July and snow anytime it feels like it. One day maybe I can have a green house that is my wish. I love watching plants grow, there is not a flat spot in my house that doesn't have a plant on it, lol.

I love looking through seed catalogs and planning for the early planting.   There is nothing like a cuppa of something hot and good and pouring over catalogs in the middle of a storm storm.  HUGS

I've decided to grow my vegetables in in raised [ non dig] beds from now on. Trialed it this year and it worked on a small scale/ Winter is a great time for planning.
Can I recommend Jekka McVicca's herb book, its wonderful
