Clashing Energies?

So I have a question.

I am having a hard time finding a place in my home to set up an altar due to the fact that my husband has a 6 year olds attitude. If it gets broken it was not where it goes. The one place in my home I can almost get him to respect is my "Shrine to the Dead" All whom i have lost in life are on this wall. I feel it would be the best place in my house for my altar but I don't know if working on the same table as my family's ashes would really be in anyone s best interest. 

Do you think If I just reworked the table to make it more Energy friendly it would work. Or should I decide on somewhere else for an altar?
