RealPagan- Paganism for the Real World

I've read in a few places lately that Frigg is often ignored amongst worshipers of Norse deities, and as a devotee of Frigg, this made me quite sad. Is it true that She doesn't get much attention amongst Heathens?

Also, a question for those who worship Frigg: Do you have any rituals or such which you would care to share? What kind of offerings do you find She appreciates most? (I always feel right when I give Her libations of milk, under trees especially.)

Any information on Her, links to religious or scholarly articles (I am a decidedly academic type), or other discussion would be much appreciated. As a Baby Heathen I'd like to learn all I can.

I have a feeling she may be more worshipped among female Heathens, but I know very little female Heathens. She is definitely respected, especially since she is Odin's prime woman and Odin is one of the most popular deities, along with the ubiquitous Thor. Modern Heathens do celebrate the Disablot which is in honour of all the Goddesses; no doubt Frigg is among these lovely ladies. Many Heathens I know will put an idol on their altar of their patron or matron made of any material they wish from wood to salt dough. You could do this and leave offerings in a bowl before the idol? Other things to keep with you to honour her would be a pair of symbolic keys, a necklace charm, a bindrune you make yourself or a spinning wheel(perhaps this one on the altar).
Check out my link and definitely look into the lore, the eddas and historical writings describing Disablot and the relationship between Frigga and Odin and Frigga and her people. There's no better place to start than with the history. Perhaps make a shrine at the centre of your home, wherever it may be, to her with symbols that represent her. Here is a contemporary toast to Frigga you can use.

I personally don't see tons of Frigg devotees, but I think that it may have something to do with the kind of person that gets drawn to Frigg as far as being devoted to her. As far as what I have read about her, she's more of a maternal goddess, and due to popularity of Freyja, and her openness with sexuality and being strong willed, many younger and more maiden like women tend to be drawn to her.

I personally am still building my relationship with Frigg, but I like her stability and maternal aspects. I'm not saying that liking Freyja is akin to being loose or anything like that, but with Freyja, their tends to be a strong sexual energy and magical focus that at this time for me isn't what I am looking for, I'm not crossing her off of my deity list, I'm just navigating still and Frigg seems better suited to me at this time. Like Liofrun said, she is Odin's prime lady, but she has put him in his place before as well, something else that I like about her, she's very wise and witty. I also love a Goddess that does yarn oriented crafts and this year I plan on following the guideline of getting all of my crochet and knitting done before Yule starts and holding off from starting a new project until the new year.

As far as my limited workings with her, I am trying to find a statue or a symbol for her on my altar. I was thinking about getting a distaff and wrapping some yarn around it to symbolize her knowledge of not only my fate, but also the fate of all humanity. For some reason, and if anyone knows why I'd love an answer, I feel drawn to water animals, like ducks and geese lately when I go searching for a figure to represent her. I know her hall is Fensalir, or "marsh hall" so I think it has something to do with that. I do have a small wooden bowl that I have been leaving offerings from my garden for her, and I think that has been helping with forging a relationship with her. I too feel right with giving her libations of milk, and I have a small sample of Yarrow that has been dried next to the candle that used as a representative of her.

As far as reading about her specifically, I'd say go to the Eddas, but also check out "Our Troth" vol 1 &2, mainly two since it gives a few pages to her and to her 12 handmaidens. I also plan on working with her handmaidens as well, since they seem to have much to teach me. I would also recommend checking out Kveldulf Gunnarsson's "Teutonic Religion"  and just about anything by Diana Paxson, especially "Essential Asatru" I hope that this helped.

Sounds like Frigga really does like her milk! Do you think she'd like chocolate milk too?

I think that chocolate milk would be too sweet for her :D. Also, the cacao bean that is used to make chocolate isn't native to her area, but perhaps someone has offered it to her in the past and she has liked it?

Perhaps just a drop of honey then.
Are you kidding? Every woman loves chocolate ;) ;)

It may come as a surprise to some people, but one of my heathen friends- a man's man to be sure- is a devotee of Frigg. He's all about his family, so this is very fitting for him.
True, I know I do, I guess I was thinking of this from a chronological and geographic point of view. :D

I feel about the same as you on all counts, YarrowSage.

I initially started out with an interest in Freyja, but I don't think she was very healthy for me. The feeling I got when worshiping her was too akin to a manic state for my head to handle it and turn the energy into something productive.

Frigg made me uncomfortable at first, as a mother goddess and as someone associated with housework (I am a tocophobic rabid feminist), until I actually started spending time with her and realized that for me, at least, her nature at its core is one of calm, order, and quiet wisdom. With the unfortunate wackiness of my mental functions, this is just the sort of energy I need to be connecting with.

I also have been recently associating her with ducks and geese, but also with rabbits. I'm not really sure why, but I think it's probably because rabbits are just about the quietest animals one can find.
