I came up with this Idea due to a few new members joining lately and due to the site not being as active this time of year I thought it would be a fun thing for new members as well as the senior members to do. 1. What is your practice?
I'm an initiated Wiccan in the Blue Star tradition. I am also a devotée of Hekate.
2. If you have a magickal name what is it?
I have a name that I use only among my tradmates, so I'm not going to share it here. In public, I will just go by my given name in person, or whatever Internet handle I use on a website.
3. What kind of pets do you have?
I have a longhaired black cat named LucyFur, though 99% of the time, I call her Woogie (thanks to "Something Positive," but from the early days, before they had a cat with that name in the comic).
4. What are two things in your kitchen that you couldn't live with out.
ALL OF IT. Seriously, I'm kind of obsessed with cooking. But to pick two…my stove and my chef's knife.
5. Are you married?
Yes, my husband and I got married this past October, though we'd already been together for over ten years at that point.
6. Do you have children? If so do you include them in your practice?
No kids yet.
7. List one item in your living room that you have made yourself.
In my living room? Nothing I can think of. The stuff I've made is primarily in my bedroom (mostly knitted things, especially lace shawls).
8. What is one item that you have added to your altar recently?
So, my altar is something I set only for ritual, and then take down again. I change the setup slightly (within the framework of my tradition's altar setup) depending on the ritual I'm doing, the time of year, etc. I do, however, have a couple of shrines to particular deities. The most recent addition to those is a small statue of Hekate on my shrine to her. I'd had one that was a copy of a three-faced pillar-type statue of her in Greece. Now I also have one that I believe is based on a vase painting depicting the return of Persephone, where she is depicted with two torches.
9. Two random items that are in your fridge?
Great Hill Blue cheese and tahini paste
10. One item in your pantry?
Fish sauce
11. Favorite meal to cook?
Homemade pizza with slow-fermented dough. Getting the PERFECT pizza crust is enough of a challenge to keep me interested, pizza is always awesome, and I love the fact that I can change up the toppings infinitely, depending on what I'm in the mood for.
12. Favorite drink?
Oh jeez. Rye Manhattans? Corpse Revivers? Dirty gin martinis? Negronis? I love a good cocktail. I also love a good beer, particularly the lavishly dry-hopped ones. Cambridge Brewing Company's Red God is one of my faves in that category. I like non-alcoholic drinks too, but man, you can do some awesome stuff with alcohol.
13. Favorite fruit?
I can't pick just one. Whichever one I happen to be eating?
13. Favorite Veggie?
See "fruit." Though I am particularly, passionately fond of cucumbers, which are incredibly versatile.
14. Favorite workout?
Walking and calisthenics. I love feeling my body get stronger.
15. Favorite color?
Red.
16. What are some of your hobbies?
Knitting (hi, fellow knitter!), cooking, gardening, dancing, singing, strength training
17. What is your totem/spirit animal?
I don't have one. Never felt the need.
18. Favorite show?
I think Doctor Who probably wins that one, though I also have loved Firefly, The X-Files, Bablyon 5, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and others. Right now, I'm actually obsessively watching a rather BAD TV show--the BBC's Robin Hood--just because it has the amazing and dead sexy Richard Armitage in it. Swoon.
19. What are some decorations that relate to your practice around your house?
I suppose that you could count my shrines in that way, as well as my husband's shrine to the Morrigan.
20. If you garden what are some things you are growing?
Tomatoes, basil (Genovese, lime, and Thai), sage, catnip, lavender, oregano, spearmint, marjoram, kale, thyme, cilantro, jalapeños, cayennes, hot Italian peppers, tarragon, rosemary dill, chives (OK, those are volunteers), and maybe a couple more I've forgotten. I have no real land, but I do have a huge deck with lots of containers on it!
21. Favorite Herbs?
For cooking or magical work? For cooking…basil (Genovese and Thai), thyme, and tarragon, probably. For magical work, lavender and rosemary are two with a ton of uses, plus they're cheap and easy to obtain. I bloody HATE burning sage. It stinks!
22. Favorite flowers?
Roses that smell good or that have interesting colors
Lilacs
Hydrangeas
Irises
23. Coffee or tea?
Yes please. Coffee in the morning, herbal tea throughout the day, and sometimes black tea as a pick-me-up in the afternoon.
24. DO you collect anything?
Coins, books (does that even count?), stones (crystals and so forth), yarn (I don't TRY to collect it, but it seems to happen)
25. What is your favorite thing to do on your day off?
Go out shopping, cook a fabulous meal, spend time with my husband, have a lovely cocktail, see friends, and fall asleep happily on the couch while watching something fun.
26. What is the best advice you have ever been given?
"Communicate, communicate, communicate." The three rules to a good relationship. :)
27. What are you reading currently?(besides this survey)
The collected works of H.P. Lovecraft (just finished "The Shadow Over Innsmouth"), The Jennifer Morgue (part of the Laundry Files series by Charles Stross), and (when I only have my phone and its Kindle app), Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.
28. What is to the left of you right now?
A completed and signed-off-on wealth evaluation of an alumnus. (I'm at work, and I do prospect research for a university.)
29. What is to the right?
My now-empty mug, which had contained herbal tea.
30. What is one thing you hope to accomplish with your practice this year?
I'd really, really, really like to be able to get some more teaching experience. I feel like that's necessary before I take third degree. Unfortunately, with my coven's location, it's not easy to attract new students--it's not easily accessible by public transit, and isn't in the heart of the metropolitan area, whereas our sister coven is much easier for many people to get to, and anyone looking for a coven in our tradition is far more likely to start with them.
