The suggested construction of the pentacle to be made of wax; engraved pentacle on a wax disc (or disc of silver or gold) is said to came from Aleister Crowley's instructions to the A∴A∴ .

Yes I concur with my dear Sistern. An will add that some old folk magic use the wax pentacle  in harvest spell work an put in bail fires to call on the element.

Now it must be understood that this was not a wide practices an in most case it would have been a Earth Goddess made of clay or carved wood, wax was not easy to come by  if one was poor or it was forbidden to own by your   lord or landowner. if you could see at night you might read.

It just struck me as odd ;I know that ordinary tools were used however wax was a commodity not something that people would want to toss and as far as I can tell it served no ritual purpose that something else less valuable to the household couldn't serve. It also seems a rather labor intensive project if it wasn't from a mold.I tried to make one out of curiosity with out a mold it wasn't easy and it took several attemps to make one I considered acceptable

When discussing commodities such as using wax and candles in a magick and whether it's traditional or not. I think what that really boils down to in the end is, social class.

However, I'm surprised that you say that you can't see any ritual purpose in using wax. After all, what is candle magick? Wax is imprint-able, impressionable and pliable. It absorbs. I don't see a wax pentacle being any different than candle magick.

Although the folklore behind the wax pentacle may be questionable. The idea of it being so easily destroyed without a trace of evidence to what it was (in fear of being discovered, so it is said), and the material being of wax and reusable. I surely can think a few purposes in that. ;)

Lol  I didn't mean I saw no use for wax in rituals I use candles all the time theyre my "go to " reagents .You said it best and brought it into perspective. It 's a matter of class differentiation. When I read it I immediately thought ...why on earth would a witch use a precious commodity such as wax for something that was easier to replace such as twigs or such.I think like a witch that's been poor by others standards all my adult life so I couldn't see it. However it made perfect sense to me when you put it in that context.

Sorry, I seemed to misinterpret what you meant there.  Lol.

Hey, I think I might want to have a go at making one too.  Just to see.  So sometime soon, look forward to that.  I'm expecting it will be messy with a lot of cursing. ;)

First: I don't know.

Second: So that you will ask and then act.

The act of wondering about, and searching for, a tool's meaning is intended, I think. This process of searching gives the artifact more meaning. More meaning=more data more mass∴X.
This is represented physically in the brain.  The sensation of "Greater Understanding" of an object happens when we have multiple perspectives of it's aspects stored in our mind.  Making this object and understanding why you are making it allows you to use it as a place holder for information that would otherwise require a long walk in a beautiful meadow.

Like all magical implements the pentacle is a kind-of* short cut that allows the practitioner to complete changes in themselves that would otherwise play out though more complex and time consuming unconscious compulsions.

*This is the reason for the old reliable answer "I'm not telling. It's a secret." This is the "path to truth paved with lies". And, in respect to this idea, I have not been honest with you. If I tell you Bruce Willis is a ghost, it insures that you will not experience the explosion (literal) of surprise in your brain at the end of the movie.

The composition of the Eucharist is the eventual outcome.

Seems a rather practical answer, really. Regardless of whether this was *actually* an old practice (or just one created to seem that way) forming the flat disc pentacle for the altar out of wax goes back to that "gettin' rid of the evidence in a jiffy!" mentality.  Inquisition knocking at your door? Break the thing up and throw it in a crucible over your hearth. "Witchcraft? ME!?! No...I'm just making some candles, here, for the lean season." :) See - was just gettin' my thread out to start dippin'! Wax is almost ready...you want a cup of tea?

Since - last I saw - the Inquisition doesn't come around quite so often, would seem the practice is now relegated to "quaint." But hey, my two cents.

Wax pentacles refer to older systems which utilized them such as John Dee and his Sigil De Amyth created of beeswax. This wax pentacle has been continued in many modern occult / pagan paths.
