So this was an interesting experience. I've heard of Spirit Animals, Animal Guides, Totem Animals, etc. but I had never experienced an animal actually trying to make any connection with me.
Yesterday I was sitting in the living room, which has a big window, and a smaller window on the door. A red cardinal peeked his head in, and tried to fly into the glass. Nothing violent, he just sort of perched himself on the window sill and knocked on the glass with its wings.
Then he flew up to the window at the door, did it a few times, and flew off. I went outside and watched this little bird jump from branch to branch. Some people shot off a firework (mid-day) and we both went our separate ways.
Today, I heard a noise and looked in the living room to see the same little bird, knocking on the window with its wings.
I've been having a TERRIBLE time in life lately (it's been two of the worst months of my life) and I'm hoping this has a positive meaning for me. What do you guys think? Do you know of any magickal associations with the cardinal bird? I'm doing my own research on the species, because it's just amazing to me.
Unless the window has a reflective tint to it, then I would say it is worth noting. Cardinals are very shy with people and tend to flit into the trees as soon as a human is spotted. If you have any kind of reflective coating in or on the glass then it may have thought it was another cardinal it was brushing up against.
We have a zebra back wood pecker that is not very shy. He likes to hammer away on the empty bird feeder to tell us to refill it. lol I hollered at him one time "Why don't you go hammer on a tree for bugs like a normal woodpecker?" He started chattering at me and flew off.
Birds can be quirky sometimes.
One site that I know of lists Cardinals attributes as:
Understanding the power of the wind
Finding your soul song http://www.animalspirits.com/index17.html
Amara- The glass is somewhat reflective... still, I was thrilled :-p I saw a blue one this morning, so I'm putting bird food out there for them.
Lark- Thanks for the link! Very interesting.
Sorry you've been having a terrible time, I do hope things improve.
Thank you for all the information :-)
I hope you get to the bottom of your cardinal visits, and that it is an omen of better times to come for you.
I'm a great believer in colour magick, and being a red bird, I would say the message it brings is one of passion, of new life ahead, of health and vitality to come, of positive outcomes... and generally something good to be happy about.
Only warnings I can see is perhaps an element of unfulfilled desires?
Anyways, I'm real happy for you, wish we got red birds here... the closest we get here is Robins... and they are very feisty little characters! Xx
