How Did You Get Drawn to Paganism?

Hey y'all, thought this would be a fun discussion to see how everyone was drawn to their path. I myself was very interested in (Egyptian) mythology ever since I was in fourth grade. In eighth grade,…Continue

I agree with your pov Edan.  I have been seeking for many, many years but there is just too much info out there.  I have decided to narrow my studies down to the different forms of witchcraft for moment.  I have a few books on my wish list on amazon that I will order as soon as my budget allows.  For me it's not to have or belong to a label.  To tell you the truth, I don't give a rat's butt about labels.  It just helps me to define what I practice.

Unlike you Amara, I've never been asked to define my path.  And I've never asked out front either.  But they do help people understand where you're coming from

sorry about that y'all.  I'm on my first cup of coffee.

I think the label does indeed help someone new to feel like they belong.  I also think there is a sort of power in a label (both good and bad). I agree with MoonCrone in that there should be no hurry in trying to define who you are and what you do but I also know that when you are new and speaking with a seasoned pagan, they often will ask "What is your path?" or "Where does your focus lie".  And that is a hard question to answer when you have no idea what you are doing.  They often will resort to saying "Wicca" because 1. they don't know any better and 2. They don't want the label of witch.  The second being the most prevalent for those who know better but refuse to go by anything but "Wicca".  I can understand how that feels.  It's nice to have the DRW as a label but I feel it is a descriptor and not a label.  I think it would be more widely accepted by new pagans if it had label that wasn't more of description.

Man, I'm rambling.  Sorry.

I know it's probably been "done to death" but I would like to see a discussion on the validity of "labels"...  so many folk start out and ask what kind of Pagan am I?" or ask for help finding which "flavour" of Pagan fits them best, and so fourth, but I can't understand their hurry, fail to "get" their need to put a name to their particular beliefs and practices.  Could it be caused by their own curiosity and desire to "fit in" and "belong"or could it be fear of being criticized by others, a kind of worry they are somehow not "important" or "valid" I wonder?  Just my ramblings on the matter!  No judgements.

I try to remain open to noticing signs. Those kinds of things can be difficult to "see," so to speak, and interpret; and I often see people asking about them.

Maybe something about interpreting signs, symbols and omens; and writing spells, prayers and poems.

I would like to perhaps have different discussions about different Gods and Goddesses.  Their lore and what they are like to work with. Perhaps their associations, etc.  Would that be appropriate here? Or in another group?

Bear with me, I still have much to post :) For now we can just all chat here. Does anyone have any topics that they would like to see discussed here?
